Guide to Easy Home Repairs
The Homeowners' Checklist for Home Maintenance provides a list of preventative home maintenance items that can save on expensive and serious repairs later. It's not always easy to know what to do or why it's important. This checklist and the Homeowners' Guide for Easy Home Repair video will guide you through some simple, low cost home repair projects. You will also find some basic guidelines for hiring a professional when a project is too complex to do it yourself.
Links & Who to Call
For many people, their home is their most valuable financial asset. It is important to be cautious when hiring someone to work on your home. Just because a home improvement company advertises in the phonebook, newspapers, on television and radio commercials does not mean the contractor has a high quality of workmanship. Nor does it necessarily mean they are licensed contractors.
To research any history of complaints made against a company contact the Better Business Bureau of NW Ohio and SE Michigan at 419-531-3116.
To verify that a person/company has the appropriate licensure call City of Toledo Building Division at 419-245-1220.
To apply for your own permit, to schedule an inspection, or check on the status of your permit, visit City of Toledo Division of Building Inspection.
For a list of properly licensed home remodelers contact Home Builders Association of Greater Toledo, Inc. at 419-473-2507.
Professional Remodelers Organization 419-471-0101.
Bench Warrants
If you own property that has been cited as a public nuisance and have failed to appear in court or comply with court orders, you have a bench warrant in the Toledo Municipal Court.
If your name appears on the list to follow, you may contact the Toledo Municipal Court Clerk's Office at 419-936-3650 to obtain available court dates. These lists may not reflect changes in ownership of properties since the date of citation.
As of April 7, 2003, The Toledo Municipal Court has started to place warrant blocks against those individuals that have bench warrants pending. Warrant blocks prevent the defendant from renewing their driver's license and license plates.
